Why: late in a long run, sweet gels and powders can be hard to stomach. I'm making an electrolyte candy to try to make that easier. It has a clean, neutral lime flavour, you hold it in your mouth rather than mix it into a bottle, and it comes in a bullet shape and a square. It's made from sugar, electrolytes (salt, magnesium, potassium and calcium) and lime flavouring. It's still a prototype, and this trial is how I find out whether it actually works for people who have done the long efforts.

What: you'll taste a few small pieces, score them on a short sheet and tell me what you noticed.

When: Sunday 1 November 2026. Starts at 4pm. From 5.30pm, free catering and drinks (alcohol 18+) at The Abyssinian as a thank you. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options available. Finished by about 7pm. You can leave after the tasting if you need to.

Where: The Abyssinian, 277 Racecourse Rd, Kensington VIC 3031. Open in Google Maps. Google Maps may say it's closed. It's normally closed on Sundays, and we've booked the whole restaurant for the trial.

What's in it for you: you're one of the first people to try it, your scores shape the recipe before launch in February 2027, and the catering and drinks are on me.

How it works: sign up today. You'll get one confirmation email straight away and one reminder on Friday. That's all. Friends and family are welcome for the catering; just add them below.

Questions or need help? Text or call Pete on 0407 378 337 (please include your name so I know it's about Race Camp), or email peter@racecamp.com.au.

Allergen notice and eligibility (please read)

The candy is a simple sugar confection with added electrolytes and flavouring, and we don't add any of the common allergens as ingredients. It hasn't been lab tested. It is prepared in a working restaurant kitchen that handles other foods. The following may be present: wheat, barley, rye, oats, milk, egg, fish, crustacea, molluscs, soybean, sesame, lupin, peanut, tree nuts (almond, cashew, hazelnut, macadamia, pecan, pistachio, walnut) and sulphites.

If you have any diagnosed food allergy, please do not take part in the tasting. You're still welcome to join us for a meal from 5.30pm onwards. Tasters must be 18 or over. Food and drinks are provided on a Race Camp funded tab at The Abyssinian. Any alcohol is served by the venue to adults 18+ only, under their licence.

For your confirmation now and one reminder on Friday. This helps Pete understand how much you sweat and move, and so how much you rely on electrolytes.

We use these details to run the trial and contact you about it: one confirmation email and one Friday reminder. We only send marketing emails or texts if you tick the boxes above, and every message has an unsubscribe option. We do not record any health information, just your yes. See our Privacy Policy.
